He said this could be achieved by leveraging Malaysian creativity and digital technology, while preserving priceless national culture, arts and heritage.
“We will develop an ecosystem conducive to the creative landscape, developing our talents to meet the needs of the industry, as well as strengthening our product development and promotion initiatives,” he said at the Virtual Forum of Kuala Lumpur’s Creative Economy (KUL.CEF 2021) and Art In The City (AITC) 2021 kicks off today.
He said the growth catalysts will increase income and employment opportunities, as well as strengthen distinctive local cultural identities, paving the way for Malaysia to become a renowned exporter and leader in creative fields.
“Personally, in my area of expertise as Minister, I hope to see the industry grow stronger through a strategic plan, a coordinated effort between the public and private sectors, a database approach to developing sectors and a patient capital to develop this creative Malaysia economy. .
“This must be done immediately through the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and its agencies including the Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA) and MyCreative Ventures,” he added.
In addition, Annuar said he also hopes to see more strategic programs that help build on successful local precedents such as Upin & Ipin, Ejen Ali and Didi & Friends who have made their mark both locally and globally. .
“Now is the time, more than ever, to stimulate the growth of the industry and that requires a unique approach or approaches that we can borrow from others who have been very successful.
“We can localize these approaches here at home to create a conducive ecosystem for the industry to become a driver of social inclusion, (leading to) job creation and potentially economic gains for the nation,” he said. he declares.
Annuar said that 2021 being the International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, there is much to be learned from cultural and creative stories and strengths.
“We already have nearly 900,000 Malaysians employed in the creative economy and that’s a lot. Indeed, we can do more and I think we must do more.
Malaysia’s 12th plan aims to increase the creative sector’s contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) by nearly 20% over the next five years, from RM26.8 billion in 2020 to RM31.9 billion. ‘by 2025.
