Government recognizes the role of digital technology platforms in promoting sports culture (Anurag Thakur)


As ‘sport’ is a state matter, the responsibility for promoting sporting culture rests primarily with the state/union territory governments. The unity government complements their efforts. However, the Ministry of Youth and Sports implements the following programs for the development of sport in the country: (i) Khelo India program; (ii) Assistance to national sports federations; (iii) Special awards to winners of international sporting events and their coaches; (iv) National sports awards; (v) Pension to deserving athletes; (vi) Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Sports Welfare Fund; (vii) National Sports Development Fund; and (viii) Running sports training centers through the Sports Authority of India.

The Government recognizes the role of digital platforms in the promotion of sporting culture and the development of sport. Accordingly, the government has launched a number of projects towards e-governance and digitization in sport to harness the power of information and communication technologies and enable the organization of a information accessible to all stakeholders. A number of information technology projects have been launched in this regard in this ministry, including the National Sports Repository System, Khelo India Mobile App, Khelo India Fitness App, Annual Workout Calendar Portal and Competitions (ACTC) and the Fit India mobile app and website. /Gate.
